Julie K. Brown

Julie K. Brown joined WETA June 6, 2022. In her role as Senior Vice President of Human Resources, she is responsible for all human resources activities across WETA, including staffing, employee relations, benefits, performance management, compensation, labor relations, compliance, and professional development. She also works closely with the WETA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Council to further the organization’s commitment to ensuring a fair and equitable workplace for all.

Reporting to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Jason R. Daisey, Brown works closely with Daisey, President and Chief Executive Officer Sharon Percy Rockefeller, and other senior leadership to champion a culture of excellence and innovation while developing human resources strategies that align with the organization’s goals.

Before joining WETA, Brown served as Vice President, Human Resources for PBS Distribution (PBSd). She was a strategic partner in the transformation and expansion of public media program distribution. She worked closely with the PBSd leadership team and partners at PBS and GBH to ensure that the company has best-in-class human resources to support the collective business objectives.

Prior to PBSd Julie led a human resources consulting business for eight years. Focused on organizational design, leadership development and human resources operations, she worked with a variety of companies to understand their business needs and create aligned human capital strategies and tactics.

In her 25+ years of experience in human resources, she has worked in the cable and media industry in several roles. As the Director, Talent Acquisition for AOL, Julie led the hiring of 500 employees per quarter as the business expanded and ultimately combined with Time Warner. As a Director, Organization Effectiveness and Leadership Development for Time Warner Cable, she led twelve cable divisions across the U.S. in human resources best practices, leadership development, and succession planning. Julie ultimately served as the Vice President, Human Resources for the Time Warner Cable Broadband division where she led human resources for the high-speed internet revenue stream. In her early career, Julie led human resources for the Sales and News division of Bridge Information Systems (purchased by Reuters). Other valuable experiences in her career have been in the finance industry (Freddie Mac) and technology (MicroStrategy).
