Project and Implementation Manager

Full-time, Regular, Exempt

Reports to: Chief Technology Officer

JOB OBJECTIVE

The Project and Implementation Manager is responsible for developing project and implementation plans throughout WETA and NewsHour Productions to support multiple departments working on various projects through the Office of the CTO ranging from editing, asset management, archiving and storage, hybrid workflows, operational tools and systems, business continuity, and disaster recovery. This role is responsible for evaluating the current and future needs of multiple departments, understanding the systems currently deployed at WETA, and recommending, implementing and training staff on solutions for their project specific needs. This position reports to the CTO and works across the technology team, and all departments at WETA and NewsHour Productions, to gather information, design and deploy these solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Gather business needs and requirements, conduct gap analysis, and develop project plans, budgets, and other related documents for projects as required.
  • Research solutions with user and vendor input adhering to industry best practice.
  • Present solutions to CTO for evaluation and approval, and ultimately to key stakeholders for review and selection.
  • Prioritize project tasks, manage timelines, maintain project plans, monitor budgets, and communicate status to tech team members, key stakeholders, and senior management.
  • Work with external vendors as required.
  • Provide technical support to the project team, manage project risks and ensure that new resources are implemented successfully.
  • Create and maintain all supporting documentation of processes within the facility and workflows.
  • Troubleshoot workflow issues, and interface with vendors and users during workflow and user acceptance testing.
  • Develop training materials, train staff in the proper use of tools and workflows, and provide ongoing training support, and facilitate upgrades as needed.
  • Resolve new issues that surface, or implement adjustments needed to support new business objectives.
  • Offer solutions for individual projects consistent with established workflows, or research relevant alternate solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all project management and implementation requests, including both potential projects and active projects.
  • Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with enterprise level archive, production and/or media asset management systems, and traffic and automation systems.
  • A multi-vendor understanding of video editing, post-production, MAM solutions, broadcast operations infrastructure and associated tools and applications.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and deploying media software solutions.
  • The ability to engage with producers, technicians, engineers, and management to conduct business analysis, gather requirements, present solutions, and success implement and deploy complex solutions.
  • Experience in cost/benefit evaluations of potential solutions—low, medium, and high options.
  • The ability to create all training materials, operational procedures, and documentation in support of the projects.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in post-production management, media workflow and asset management, project management, or technical operations in a demanding broadcast, cable, or news environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in media, production, project management or associated field.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated experience consulting for multiple customers in a system integration role.
  • Familiarity with most key software vendors operating in the editing, production workflow, cloud enabled media collaboration, production asset management space, and broadcast/technical operations.
  • Hands on experience with at least one major enterprise production asset management system—industry standard or custom built.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
