Production Manager, Local Projects

Full-Time, Exempt

Reports to: Senior Director of Production and Creative Services

JOB OBJECTIVE

The Production Manager is responsible for the logistical aspects of production for local WETA Television programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Schedule crews, editors, studio usage, and outside vendors in coordination with multiple producers and WETA Scheduling team for concurrent productions.
  • Ensure that the production process runs smoothly, and deadlines are met.
  • Oversee workflow among and between producers, editors, and Digital Media.
  • Manage budgets, negotiate costs with vendors, establish accounts, and handle payment processing for vendors and talent.
  • Meet regularly with producers in order to understand the needs of the project and to ensure efficient deployment of resources.
  • Problem-solve during production and post-production.
  • Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Superior planning and organizational skills.
  • Fluency with current broadcast and digital media production processes.
  • Adept at handling budgets and payment software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with good judgment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five+ years of experience in professional video production.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (E.g. Excel).
  • Experience with union contracts and union staff requirements is preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
