Production Controller, PBS NewsHour

Full-time, Regular

Reports to: Director, Production Operations

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you’ll be integral in maintaining financial accountability for NewsHour Productions LLC, the PBS NewsHour operating budget and multiple grants incorporated into the PBS NewsHour, including any special event coverage. Monthly, you’ll provide updates on the operating budget and assigned projects/grants, basic forecasts and analysis. You’ll monitor the work of the Associate Production Controller, including delegating invoice processing as needed, and review data entry. You’ll bring a fresh perspective that will help us improve our efficiency and compliance.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll understand our processes and learn our systems. As you become more comfortable with our processes, you’ll propose new ideas to create a more efficient team.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You are proficient in creating and processing check requests, cash advances, reclasses and accruals. You have a functional understanding of: production expenses, Concur and Great Plains, and are able to allocate appropriate project codes. You accurately track and deliver monthly updates for assigned projects and general operating budgets.

You act as point of contact for vendor inquiries on payment process or assist employees on expense report issues/questions. You monitor and guide Associate Production Controller on his/her duties.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and organization.
  • Understanding of revenue, expense, budgeting and forecasting techniques.
  • Experience and understanding of an accounting software is a plus.
  • Experience in grant administration and budget reporting is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field; five years’ experience in cost accounting, including preparing, tracking and analyzing budgets; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
