Title : Manager, Planned Gifts

Status : Full Time Exempt

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Planned Gifts Manager will help nurture and grow WETA’s community of planned giving prospects and steward realized planned gifts through notification to receipt. They will manage the planned giving marketing campaigns, assist with legacy cultivation and stewardship, including gift acknowledgments, gift recording and crediting, prepare materials for distribution and provide administrative support. Responsible for creating CGA illustrations and closing gifts; qualifying and fulfilling requests of our planned giving leads; and assisting with the cultivation and stewardship of new and existing legacy society members. The position will include ongoing cultivation with various stakeholders including a mature and loyal donor segment so strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential. The Manager will report to the Senior Director, Planned Gifts to support a collaborative planned giving program on behalf of WETA and PBS NewsHour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct donor prospect screening and perform initial donor qualification of planned giving leads to create pipeline.
  • Coordinate and respond to inquiries generated from planned giving promotional materials.
  • Manage planned giving marketing efforts including segmenting mailing lists, coordinating updates to website, on-air, and member magazine promos.
  • Maintain the Crescendo website and create marketing materials from Crescendo package.
  • Assist in the stewardship program for members of Elizabeth P. Campbell Legacy Society (approximately 600 members)
  • Create CGA illustrations; close gifts
  • Generate all correspondence related to new legacy members
  • Coordinate the annual Legacy Society recognition event

Data Tracking/Administration

  • Track, report, and evaluate engagement with members of the Legacy society.
  • Track and analyze all planed giving marketing results.
  • Management of the notification process of planned gifts and track data entry to ensure proper recording in database.
  • Participate in Leadership Circle and other WETA events as necessary.
  • Seek training necessary to remain current in knowledge of planned giving.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; must possess strong verbal and written communication skills with experience communicating with a mature donor audience/segment.
  • Experience working cooperatively as a member of a team as well as independently with self-direction and ability to meet timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, have excellent organizational abilities, judgment, and ethics; able to work with minimal oversight, collaboratively with colleagues, and cooperatively with superiors.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated experience working independently and in conjunction with other professional fundraising staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills; proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects, exceed goals, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, excellent judgment, and flexibility.
  • Ability to listen well and conduct conversations surrounding sensitive/confidential topics.
  • Intermediate computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Database proficiency preferred.
  • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend events when necessary.
  • Local travel as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three years' experience in planned gift fundraising

Experience in individual fundraising, including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and donor stewardship, is highly desirable.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
