Director, National Digital Content

Reports to: Senior Director, National Digital Content

We’re looking to hire a Director of National Digital Content for our National Programming. The Director of National Digital Content is a key member of the editorial and strategy team tasked to create new and engaging cross-platform content that dovetails with national broadcast programming and is designed to succeed on digital sites, social, OTT and across partner sites, as well as adapt to emerging platforms and opportunities. The primary focus of his/her responsibilities will be to execute an executive vision that drives enterprising digital growth and opportunity create original content that drives innovation, engagement and brand identity across WETA, the public media ecosystem and other strategic distribution channels.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Develop original content ideas and concepts for video, audio, text, animations, graphics and other transmedia formats.
  • Work closely with producers, project staff, and/or contract employees in the execution of premier national digital content.
  • Define and drive long-term editorial strategy and positioning for WETA’s national programming and public media in general.
  • Support and grow strategic editorial and corporate partnerships.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, you will become familiar with all WETA-provided software such as Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, etc. Familiarized with the personnel of the digital team and the more comprehensive National Programming department; this also includes all external vendors and contractors. Become knowledgeable of all active digital projects, deliverables, and project status and able to lead daily team meetings and presentations.
  • After 120 days, You will be familiar with system partners and relationships, and able to lead the daily activities of the National Digital team (includes full-time employees, contractors, and vendors). Lead virtual event planning as needed and QC asset delivery to the PBS system, project partners, and sponsors.

You must have:

  • Proven track record of creating compelling, innovative cross-platform content.
  • Experience with all things digital – web, mobile, social, media campaigns, etc.
  • Successful track record of leading in a consensus-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to write, edit and create multi-media projects.
  • Comprehension of SEO and web analytics.

You should have:

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in digital media, web development, communications, or related field, preferably in the PBS system or video environment.
  • Must include 8 years’ experience with digital media management.

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
