Free public opening reception + music showcase: Fri Jan 25 / 6-10pm; artist talk with Juror Don Russell 7:15pm; “Rappers + Reggaetoneros” music showcase 8-10pm
Delicate/Violent (Delicado/Violento) features a series of portraits by contemporary artist David Amoroso of local rappers and reggaetoneros depicted in violent postures juxtaposed against delicate backgrounds. These two extremes seem obvious at first glance, but the more a viewer studies the artwork, the more they can evaluate their own paradigms as they relate to the theme of the exhibit. The exhibit's opening reception takes place on Friday, January 25, including an artist talk with Juror Don Russell followed by a Rappers and Reggaetoneros music showcase. See some of the most exciting new and established rappers and reggaetoneros of the underground DC Latino music scene perform for free live in Artisphere’s Ballroom. Reggaeton is a Caribbean fusion of hip hop with Latin timbres. The performances will center on the Delicate/Violent themes presented in the exhibit through insightful and thought-provoking lyrics, street style and attitude.
