Barnes&Noble at Catholic University to Open July 28 in Monroe Street Market
Barnes&Noble College Booksellers at The Catholic University of America marks its opening in Monroe Street Market with a celebration on Monday, July 28, that includes a book signing by Fox News Channel anchor Bret Baier, live music, and a sale on items throughout the store.
The bookstore at 625 Monroe St., N.E. — the newest addition to Monroe Street Market — features Catholic University textbooks and spirit gear; a café serving Starbucks coffee, ready-to-go sandwiches, and baked goods; a selection of fiction, non-fiction, reference, and children’s books; and indoor and outdoor seating. The celebration, which opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m., also includes raffles and free food samples.
“The opening of the Barnes&Noble College Booksellers at The Catholic University of America in Monroe Street Market enhances the University’s relationship with the Brookland community,” says Cathy Wood, vice president for finance and treasurer. “We’re excited about the possibilities it offers for our students, faculty, and staff as well as our neighbors in Brookland.”
At noon, Bret Baier, chief political anchor for Fox and anchor of “Special Report with Bret Baier,” will talk about his new book, Special Heart: A Journey of Faith, Hope, Courage and Love, a behind-the-scenes look at his family’s life as they face their eldest son Paul’s fight with pediatric cardiac disease.
In conjunction with the Opening Day, festivities will continue through the week. Wednesday July 30th, B&N will hold a children's book reading starring Catholic University's mascot, Red the Cardinal, as he shares his favorite book, to officially inaugurate the children's section of the new store. Friday August 1st, the fantastic Pop Culture Strings will hold a concert at 5:30 p.m. to close a great week of events.
