Pianist Simone Dinnerstein Performs Benefit Recital for Friends of Classical Music

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

On Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008, pianist Simone Dinnerstein performed J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations before a capacity crowd in a special fundraising event for Classical WETA 90.9 FM at Anderson House.

Following the recital, Classical WETA general manager Dan DeVany interviewed the artist on stage. Anderson House is a Gilded Age mansion on Washington's Embassy Row, now home to The Society of the Cincinnati. The ornate ballroom was the perfect setting for this intimate get-together, preceded by a cocktail buffet.

American pianist Simone Dinnerstein enjoys critical and audience acclaim around the world. Recently returned from a tour with the Dresden Philharmonic under Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, her spring concert schedule includes appearances in Lincoln Center's Great Performers series and at London's Wigmore Hall, as well as a recital with cellist Zuill Bailey at the National Gallery of Art in April, where they will perform the complete Beethoven cello sonatas.

The evening opened with remarks by Sharon Percy Rockefeller, President and CEO of WETA, who celebrated the recent first anniversary of Classical WETA 90.9 FM and stressed the important role of Friends of Classical Music in providing much needed resources for Washington's only fulltime classical music station. Veteran announcer Paul Anthony then took the stage as emcee for the evening.

WETA Friends of Classical Music support Classical WETA with leadership gifts that help ensure a permanent home for classical music on Washington's airwaves. With grateful appreciation for their generosity, WETA invites Friends to various special events throughout the year, including concert tickets, private receptions with performing artists, and tours of Classical WETA's production studios, among other music-related benefits.
