Ready to Play

A documentary by Jennifer Crescenzo

(Credit: Lisa Helfert Photography) With as much history and character as the community it resides in, the Glover Park co-ed softball league defines this small D.C. neighborhood. Get a play-by-play on the city’s only independent community softball league, now in its 25th year. This "WETA Neighborhoods" story is a preview of a documentary by the same name, by local filmmaker Jennifer Crescenzo.

Jennifer Crescenzo. (Credit Lisa Helfert Photography) Crescenzo has spent 8 years writing, producing, and directing documentary media, and now chronicles a portion of her life in Ready to Play, a daughter’s story of how her baseball-loving father saved a run-down elementary school ball field in Glover Park and built the 25-year old neighborhood softball league that binds the changing community together.

The film, completed in the spring of 2006, is Crescenzo’s first feature-length documentary. The story behind the film, and information on the league, the neighborhood, video clips and other features, are available at the documentary’s web site.
