Rick Schneider, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has spent more than two decades leading public television stations after an early career in commercial broadcast news. Schneider came to WETA in 2013.
For nine years, Schneider was president and chief executive officer of WPBT in Miami, South Florida’s premier PBS station. WPBT was the creator of Nightly Business Report, broadcast nationwide on public television stations. During his tenure, WPBT launched several new series including Changing Seas, Check Please! South Florida, Art Loft, and Wild Florida, among others. Schneider also oversaw the creation of uVu, an online community video initiative.
Schneider is Chair-elect of the Public Television Major Market Group. He served on the Board of Directors of PBS, and has chaired the boards of Florida Public Broadcasting and the Pacific Mountain Network.
He was previously president and CEO of the PBS station in Reno, and news director and then station manager of WUFT-TV, where he was on the faculty of the University of Florida. His early career included positions as a reporter and anchor in Gainesville, West Palm Beach, and New York City, and as a Washington correspondent for Post-Newsweek Stations. Schneider graduated from the University of Florida and has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
