Rick Schneider has been executive vice president and chief operating officer of WETA since 2013 and serves as president of NewsHour Productions LLC.
After Sharon Rockefeller and Jim Lehrer announced WETA's acquisition of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions Inc., Schneider oversaw implementation of the transfer, placing production and ownership of PBS NewsHour within WETA effective July 1, 2014.
Schneider oversees local operations of WETA television and radio, including channels WETV TV 26, WETA Kids, WETA UK, and WETA HD, as well as Classical WETA FM. He supervises fundraising for all areas of the organization.
From 2004 to 2013, Schneider was president and chief executive officer of WPBT in Miami, creator of Nightly Business Report.
Schneider was previously president/CEO of KNPB in Reno, and news director and then station manager of WUFT-TV in Gainesville, Florida. His early career included positions as a reporter and anchor in Gainesville, West Palm Beach, and New York City, and as a Washington correspondent for Post-Newsweek Stations.
Schneider serves as immediate past chair of the Public Television Major Market Group. He served on the Board of Directors of PBS, and has chaired the boards of Florida Public Broadcasting and the Pacific Mountain Network.
Schneider graduated from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, which named him an Alumnus of Distinction, and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
